What cancelling online really means
For basic insurance (KVG/LAMal) no Swiss law requires a paper letter. What matters is that your insurer receives a clear, dated and signed cancellation within the statutory notice period. Online therefore means preparing the letter from home, then sending it in a way that proves the date of receipt.
An ordinary e-mail proves neither the dispatch nor the date of receipt. The safest route remains registered mail, or the registered electronic dispatch offered by some insurers in their client portal.
Prove receipt
For basic insurance, the date of receipt by the insurer counts, not the date of dispatch. Send a few working days early and keep the dispatch receipt and tracking.
