30 November 2026: the main deadline
To switch basic insurance on 1 January 2027, your cancellation letter must reach your fund by 30 November 2026 at the latest (last working day). The contract ends on 31 December 2026. What counts is receipt, never the postmark: send by registered mail and allow a few days for delivery.
The other key dates in the calendar
Several deadlines structure the year. Knowing the right one saves you from being tied in for another twelve months.
31 October 2026 — announcement of 2027 premiums
Your insurer must notify you of the new premium by 31 October at the latest. That is the signal to compare: if the increase displeases you, you have until 30 November to leave.
31 March 2027 — to cancel for 30 June
With the ordinary deductible (300 francs) and free choice of doctor, a second window exists: a letter received by 31 March 2027 allows the contract to end on 30 June 2027.
30 September — for supplementary VVG/LCA cover
Supplementary insurance is generally cancelled with 3 months' notice, i.e. for 30 September, subject to any minimum term set in the general conditions.
The exceptional windows, outside the calendar
Three situations open a right of cancellation independent of the dates above. A premium increase notified by the insurer gives you one month to cancel after notification. Moving abroad ends the contract on the date of departure, on proof. A death ends the contract on the date of the event. In all cases keep written proof — and remember that no cancellation is possible while premiums remain unpaid.
